Q: What is a cupsleeve event?
A cupsleeve event is an informal fan gathering, typically hosted at a cafe. Its origins are from Kpop, where fans will typically gather to socialize and trade items. Cupsleeve events typically involve meeting with fellow fans at the venue and obtaining a souvenir cupsleeve to commemorate the attendance to the event.
What a cupsleeve event is not: cupsleeve events are not miniature conventions. Many cupsleeve events in North America may feature an artist alley or activities, but the primary goal of a cupsleeve is to be a place where fans can gather. Our events may feature decor or activities to facilitate socialization, but offering an "convention experience" is not the primary goal of our events at this time.Q: Is the event free to attend? Are there any costs?
The cupsleeve event is free to attend, but keep in mind that in order to obtain a cupsleeve you must purchase a drink or food item. The purchase of a drink is mostly a courtesy to the venue, which has graciously allowed us to host at the cafe! Additionally you may pay for event exclusive items in our "donation tiers". "Donation tiers" are to recoup costs of hosting the event and producing event freebies. Every purchase goes into covering event expenses and goes straight into planning the next one!Q: Can I cosplay at the event?
Cosplay is encouraged! Just be mindful of the weather conditions and resctricted space. Large props are discouraged at this time, to respect the venue.Q: Why aren't all your events multi-location? And why those locations?
Will you ever host an event closer to my location?
[VOCALOID Ice Cream Social] was our first multi-location event. The chosen cities were where our current event hosts are able to secure a venue. Depending on availability of our host partners and venues, it may not be feasible to host every single event in every one of our previously hosted cities. Why did [CITY] get decor/activities/freebies while [OTHER CITY] did not?
Please note that there are limits to seating space, decor, and activities that can be at our events in accordance to our venue's limitations, especially if our event is multi-location. [VOCALOID Ice Cream Social], as our first multi-location event, had some difficulties organizing the logistics of each individual venue while allowing each host independent control of their hosted event according to what is feasible for themselves and their location. If one city has certain decor/activities and one does not, it is most likely due to venue size and capacity. Additionally, each individual host partner of SoCal-LOID may choose to have additional location specific merchandise or freebies if they so choose to organize it.
